2001 Windstar Fuel filter replacement

http://2001windstarfuelfilter.blogspot.com/

I posted some pics one my blog to show the replacement of the fuel filter on the 2001. It was alot easier than I thought, without the use of quick disconect tool as I thought would be needed. The picture for releasing the fuel pressure is at the bottom.. sorry I tried to put in order but something changed when I was done..hope this helps. Gary

I was surprised as well when I replaced it on my 2000 a year or so ago. Felt silly trying the quick disconnect tool I had bought and then realizing you just squeeze the tabs and pull apart.

For those of us with the older windstar, the tool is needed for the forward most connection.
Sounds like they made a good improvement in the newer model.

I did as well, buy the tool and found out it was not needed. In the book it said some of the vans came with the tool snaped in a location beside it.Never found it of course.. Maybe some of those out there that need the tool may look around and find one snaped in its location.. I wanted to let the ones know on the same model as mine that the tool was not needed and its a good thing that needs to be replaced. My chevy malibu has 135,000 + miles on it most were my wifes miles before we were maried and it had never been changed. I have all sorts of minor performance problems with the injectors because of this.. Low idle, misfires in cyclinders and other minor issues.I only drive it to work so I only do little work to keep it going. It runs fine but it could run better. But I am almost sure if the fuel filter was replaced earlier I would not have these problems.. I may need to clean the injectors one day on the malibu but I only drive it to work so its not priorty.. Hope this helps..

Yeah, I guess I could have posted that info in a more prominent spot than buried in this post:
