Re: my latest project
What are you taking the drive train from?
I believe that the front drive shaft on our Blazers is on the opposite side that your doner truck's probably is, so you really want to look into that first. However don't give up. Some older Fords have a T-case that connects to the transmission through a short drive shaft. This might work for you. You'd use a 2wd transmissin then. The other option is change to a solid front axle, which is a stronger setup anyways. And just have it made up to fit. (Unless you can find 1 that works out right) This issue is probably the biggest one, but not imposible to overcome |

Re: my latest project
why a 400? why not a 350? only reason i make that suggestion, unless your pockets are deeply lined with green, a 400 will hurt you, they have gotten very expencive for a block that needs work still

Re: my latest project
It'll be an expensive project with the turbo 350 transmission mods anyways.
As long as the 400 doesn't have heating issues it should be a killer motor for the rig |

Re: my latest project
actually i was thinking about it today and i talked to my uncle and he said the 400 should bolt up to a 700r4...im doing ome research with that now... the 300 because my dad had an 80 chevy stepside pick that originally had an inline 6 in it with a 4 speed trans and id just like to follow his steps... just the trucks an automatic so i didnt really wanna cut a 2nd hole in the floor to give it a t5 from a camaro. for now im just looking around for the motor... im gonna rebuild it... give it bigger cam like my dad did with his...and for the cooling issues i might try the dual thermostat setup that chevy used with the 6.5 diesels post-97 hell at one point in time i thought i wanted to put a mack v8 in it lol

Re: my latest project
That transmission is a better choice, that way everything will line up. You'll need 2.8L motor mounts for the project. Everything is available through Advanced Adapters, or you can visit the autowreck and fabricate the rest up.
There's a secret with the 400 block. When you pop the oil pan look for thick walls on the bottom of the cylinders. They're the good blocks that don't overheat. Just save me a good 1 |

Re: my latest project
how difficult would it be to put 2.8 motor mounts where 4.3 mounts were? just wondering if i could just bolt on or if i had to do any welding

Re: my latest project
I believet hat it's a bolt on project. dmbrisket 51 recently did an engine swap in a very short period of time, so he's the expert on the subject.
Shawn might have a lot of the stuff you need at a reasonable price http://www.automotiveforums.com/vbul...=1#post3909829 Tell him that Stu sent you his way. |
