Exclamation 350 EFI conversion

hey all.

does anyone know anything about weather of not it is possible to convert an 84 caprice classic from a 3.8L V6 w/ a carb, to a 305 or 350 V8 w/ fuel injection.
the reason i want fuel injection is that it gets better gas mileage, and although it may seem a 3.8 would be better for gas mileage, most of my driving is around town, when the car dosent warm up fully, so a carb gets horrible mileage (im getting between 6 and 12 MPG)
i was thinking i could buy a 305-350 block, build it myself, and do EFI instead of a carb.
is this possible, or is it just more trouble than its worth?

RESPOND W/ ANY ADVICE PLEASE

Re: 350 EFI conversion

right now, 4 out of 10. however, this would be a project for next yr. im going to college for engineering, and hopefully would learn a few things. also i have an uncle who restores and rebuilds 60's mucsle cars in his spare time. im thinkin he would be a big help.
since im tight on money, would you suggest i buy a block and build it into an engine, or buy the redy-made engine.

Re: 350 EFI conversion

get yourselfe a long block, its the bottem end and the top end with oil pan pump and pickup... you would need the manifolds and the things attached to them ie throttlebody, egr... i suggest an edelbroc intake and a set of manifolds... but i did a scfi 4.3 to scfi 5.7 swap and it cost me between 2500 and 3k, i quit keeping close track a 2k if your short on the green backs, its not something you wanna start right now

Re: 350 EFI conversion

ive found that i can get a "replacment" 350 longblock thru crate engine depot for 1,545. if i were to find a doner car to take some of the other engine parts off of, like water pump, carb, fan, ect, and forget the fuel injection, how hard would you expect it to be. it couldnt be that much worse to do fuel injection.
