Squeaking when I turn the wheel.

Hey guy. I recently bought a 96 avenger. And everytime I turn the wheel. There is a squeeky noise. almost a grinding coming from the driver side wheel. I put it up on jacks the other day and took the wheel off. The spring was split in half. So i replaced that hoping that was the problem. Nope. Still doing it. Now sometimes it makes a whirling noise when i am just driving down the road. Any ideas?

Thanks!

The spring was split in half? That is some serious damage. Was it rusted out or has it been in an accident? When I first read the title I thought it may have been a slight squeaking when turning the wheel but on the inside. This happened to my Avenger and they say to just but some lithium grease on the steering column and joints to stop that. The whirling noise almost sounds like the tire could be humming? Changing the spring out may have messed up the alignment. Is it still grinding at the wheel? Does it do it when you are moving? While stopped? Check your wheel bearing if it occurs while moving.
