Anybody changed the O2 sensor?
I can't figure how how to get it out, I can barely fit a wrench on it given the tight space, and when I do it won't budge.
Also at 100,000 is it worth buying a new one if its not throwing a code? Thanks |

Re: Anybody changed the O2 sensor?
I have a '93 Geo tracker and ran into the same problem!
The solution was easy, however. I have an air compressor and an air-hammer tool. That's the tool they use to take off and put on wheel lugs at the tire shops. I bought one of the 'tools' for removing O2 sensors. $13 at Schucks. It is a deep socket wrench with a slot open on one side to accomodate the O2 sensor's wire. A half-inch - deep socket that gets into tight places. It is a heavy, strong socket that can take impact. Photo below..... ![]() I tried EVERYTHING to get it loose! Nothing worked! In frustration, I put the tool on my Air hammer with a 4 inch extension. BINGO! Came off instantly! If you don't have the air hammer and air compressor, buy the "tool" and go to some shop and have them loosen the O2 with an air hammer. They should do it for nothing - if they want your business! An air hammer tool or even the electrical substitute is a tool that will pay for itself within one or two uses! If you don't have an air compressor, go buy the electrical type....worth every penny! The violent vibrations cause almost ANYTHING that is stuck to loosen rather quickly! I swear to God, they are miraculous in how they work! DoctorBill PS - maybe an Impact Wrench (hammer operated) might do it....

Re: Anybody changed the O2 sensor?
Soak it with PB blaster for a day and use the o2 socket that the Good Doctor posted.. Also Mine has been used so much that it slips Put a zip tie on the bottom and it keeps the socket from stretching and will keep it gripped onto the bolt.
