Add Vtec on ZC engine?

I guess all the ZC engines don't come with a Vtec. Is this true?

http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/JDM-2...QQcmdZViewItem

I was looking at a 1.6 DOHC engine out of a civic SIR or CRX or whatever. This engine is a ZC and doesnt have a Vtec. If I changed the head on this one and the ECU would I be able to add a Vtec to this? I would probably need a head from a B18c right if i can even swap that?

If I could what Head and ECU would be recommened?

What is a chipped ECu?

Re: Add Vtec on ZC engine?

THERE ARE TWO ZC ENGINE one sohc and one dohc. the dohc which i saw was without vtec. but iam not sure if all the zc without vtec.

as i know all b-series can bolt in them self, so you can add the b18c head but if you ask a expert person that will be better,
in that case (b18c) you will need ecu p72 obd1

i donk know what is the best dohc head but i think it will be the b18c, so i tell to to ask a expert will be better or any expert member in that site can answer you.

What is a chipped ECu?

if you open your factory ecu you will find some thing soled in the board calld EP ROM it have 28 pic soled in the board this EBROM include all data and all relation and all info for the engine , and it include the software which order the engine and tell the engine how to behave in any case
for ex, it tell it at 1000 rbm give 1% fuel and at 2000 rbm give 2 % ect.
and tell the engine what to do in the pressure and it will control the rev . for exampel the maximum rev in my engine 7200 rbm the EBROM which order the engine to cut at 7200 rbm. and control also the speed limitation and some data about the vtec system

so

what does the factory need not like we need
we need more power and more acceleration so we de soled this EBROM and soled new EBROM include new data to the engine , for exampel you can make your engine rev at 8500 rbm and cancel the speed limitation. and etc,

and i case of turbo the factory ecu dont know how to behave with the boost but the new chip will make the ecu can behave withboost.

Re: Add Vtec on ZC engine?

There are some SOHC vtec ZC engines, but there are also some SOHC non-vtec ones as well. No, a B18c head won't work with it. Again... D with D, B with B; ONLY. As far as I'm aware there aren't any vtec heads that will work with it. I saw a guy on honda-tech that put the DOHC ZC head (the one from that link you posted) onto the stock block you have now (d15B7), but he ran into a few problems with oil and coolant ports if I remember correctly. If you want vtec, then buy a vtec engine or buy a non-vtec block that can support a vtec head.

ECU chipping if for setups that require different settings than what a current ecu will support. The P28 and P06 can be chipped to run DOHC engines. It's especially good for people who use OBD2 engines and want to keep it OBD1. OF course there are also different kinds of chipping. Some are those crappy little $20 E-bay chips, that are worthless. Some are for the example as I stated above. And some will be chipped with engine management programs like Hondata, uberdata, crome; so you can run more aggressive all motor applications or forced induction. But for most cases, especially when running a stock engine, it's best to use the stock ecu for that specific engine.

Re: Add Vtec on ZC engine?

Search, OBD 1 and OBD 2 are different sets of codes for the diagnostic systems, OBD 2 is more involved.
