Unhappy rumbling or rubbing noises

ive got a 94 sl1 and when ever i drive it makes a strange rubbing or rumbling noise coming from the passenger side front. ive checked under the fenderwell and cant find any signs of the tire rubbingh on anything. the strange thing is that it does it mostly when i turn left and almost never when i turn right. just a lil while when i was stopped and idling i could hear a a rattle coming from about the same are. i took off and when i stopped again the rattle was gone. any ideas?

Re: rumbling or rubbing noises

There's a removable plastic panel under there for gaining access to the drive belts. It's possible that its come loose and only rubs sometimes and not others.

Re: rumbling or rubbing noises

this is freakin crazy! i went to my car after work and when i turned it on it made that annoying noise i mentioned. i turned off and on again and it still did it. the noise continued all the way except when ever i made right turns it virtualy vanished. but cam back again after i straightened out. once i made it home and changed into some clothes i didnt mind gettin dirty, walked out and turned the car on with flash light on hand to possibly see what may be rubbing or causing the problem, there was no noise. i turned off the engine and tryed again. nope still quit. grrr! how in the hell do i try to diagnose something that comes and goes?!?!? gr! lol. the only thing i noticed was a bad motor mount wich i tend to fix soon as i get the money for the part. any way the two things could be tied together? i really doubt it but im up for any suggestions at all. this noise comes and goes. so i dont have any idea what could cause something liek that. thanx

Re: rumbling or rubbing noises

oh boy tracking down problems by noises. i can give out things, but cant be certain on anything since im not there. but it could be like the alternator, power steering pump, water pump, timing chain, several things.

but a rumble can be from that upper mount, not a rubbing noise.

Re: rumbling or rubbing noises

i kinda figured it was from the mount but some times its loud and obnoxious some times it non exsistant. any way you can explain that. and how the mount could be causeing this noise and really bad vibrations?

Re: rumbling or rubbing noises

the mount just cuts down on engine movement, so lets say the motor is running nice and smooth at one point, then something causes it to run a bit rough again youd feel the difference.

and the reason for feeling the bad vibrations is because the mount is suppose to dampen those from going through the frame in which you would feel. when the mount is bad, it tends to let the motor move excessively so it just vibrates throughout the frame.

guess could have summed it in one sentence

Re: rumbling or rubbing noises

so from what ive told you, do you think my best bet would be to just have the mount fixed first considering it needs to be anyway and see if that fixes the problem or do a lil more inspecting first?

Re: rumbling or rubbing noises

best thing to do is replace the mount, and see if the problem persist.

Re: rumbling or rubbing noises

just had the mount and pcv valve replaced today. i cant believe how much a difference it made. my car is completely quiet now all except the bad muffler, which isnt really that loud. lol. now the only things left to fix that im aware of is the cooling fan always on, ac, oil leak or burn, automatic seat belt track, winshield replacement, and back brakes. but those are multiple different threads.
