Ok, so I have a 97 monte carlo with a 3.1 - it had a headgasket leaking- so I went ahead and replaced the headgaskets, intake upper and lower gaskets and valve cover gaskets with thermostat- the problem is - I have it all back together and it refuses to start- almost like it is out of time- I did not mess with the timing chain at all- I know the pushrods are different lengths- I've had them out twice and made sure that they were in the correct spot- but when I try to start it, it poofs through the intake at the throttle body- is there anyway that the cam could have jumped a couple of teeth on the chain while I had it apart?? All the valves move normally when the motor is turned over- Please any ideas would be a great help at this point- Thanks

Re: HELP- 97 monte with 3.1
Well, I finally figured it out- on any normal chevy the left bank or front bank is supposed to be the odd numbered cylinders- but on the 3.1 they are the even numbered cylinders- so I had the spark plug wires wrong from the start
![]() I hope this helps someone else- thanks
