Sunfire Head Gasket.....

Hey, im looking to buy a 99' sunfire GT (first car) and ive been warned by my friend that there have been known problems with the head gasket gettin warped. Since apparently its around 800-1300 to fix this, i was wondering if there was any way to avoid this from happening because i want to avoid having to fix it every year or 2.

Re: Sunfire Head Gasket.....

well i recently had mine replace but a warped head or gasket is more common on a higher mileage engine or if the cooling system isn't doing it's job and a hot spot will form and warp the gasket from insufficent cooling. you can't fix this problem cheap but if you take the car to a decent mechanic then they should find anything wrong with the car. also you definitely won't have to replace a head gasket every few years unless some other problem is causing the gasket to fail. also are you sure it't not a 2.4L because that is more common in the gt?
