Compressor help needed.. Thanks

Can someone please help me get my airbrush compressor connected up? I’ve no idea what I’m doing, but this is a picture of the water trap, and the two bolts I got with it.

One end is in, the other is out, and I’m meant to connect my airbrush to the out, and connect the other end to the compressor. The compressor has the same type of connector that you connect hoses to, but I think you need to run a hose from one end of the compressor air outlet to the water trap but the shop I got this from has no clue either.

Anywhere in the UK I can go, and buy the correct fittings to get this working…?

You should be able to screw the water trap directly onto the 'out' port from the compressor- no additional hose necessary. However, you will also need to get yourself a braided air hose for your airbrush- the vinyl one there in the pic is fine for use with aircans, but they tend to burst when used with compressors.

The place you ordered from looked like they knew what they were about regarding airbrush compressors. I'd be pretty unimpressed if they didn't include the necessary fittings/adapters to put it all together....

Thanks, I got the compressor from B & Q, a UK hardware store, and they told me all I needed was in the box.

I think the ends are 1/8 and my airbrush is 1/4. I think. I've tried to connect the water trap to the compressor, but both ends are the same, and I thought you needed a hose between them.

So, basically I need to find out how to install the trap directly to the compressor, and I need a 1/8 - 1/4 braided line, or at worst -

1/8 - /18 line from compressor to water trap, and then 1/8 - 1/4 from trap to airbrush - right?

Mick, show us a picture of the "out" port on your compressor.

I'm guessing that you picked up something similar to mine which has a quick release port. Is that the same with yours?

If so, IMO, you will be better off returning the water trap you have here to the shop an getting a simple in line one that you can simply splice in to your air line.

Quick release fittings. I got mine in the store where I bought the compressor and were about 1GBP and work fine (my LHS wanted millions of pounds for Paasche branded same shit!!

In the meantime, IMHO, you can use the compressor as is. Water doesn't build up like the parting of the Red Sea so you won't have a problem. Anyway, with a 24lit tank, the moisture will primarily be collecting in the bottom of that which is why I'm guessing you have a release valve in th ebottom of it?

That's what I got, and yep the tank does have a release at the bottom... and nope what you wrote made a lot of sense.Thanks...

The water trap is also a pressure guage as well, as the compressor was a cheapo thing, so I got the all in one trap /guage to save a few quid. Shame they didn't give me the hoses etc to make it all work.

Seems to have what I need, but the braided hose isn't cheap. Little wonder they didn't include it in the £85 I paid for all this. Still, even with the hoses I need to now get, still cheaper then a hobby compressor, and wayyyy more PSI then I'll ever need.

you don't need braided hose. MPWR was right that that thin vinyl stuff in th ephoto looks a bit weak but regular hose with th ecompressor is fine. Sorry but I'm on a plane in 8 hours so I'm outta here.

If you are still stuck on monday, PM me and i'll send you more detailed pics of my setup for guidance.

I think I’ve got the parts I need to get this all connected up. A shop in the UK has braided hoses, with 1/8 and 1/4 fittings, and knows what I need to get it all working.

I did have a quick go last night without the trap/regulator but the airbrush just shoots out too much air, it was like trying to hold onto Concorde. It has a LOT of pressure, but I was surprised by how quiet it actually was, and the 25 ltr tank filled up in like 5 mins.

Just get the hoses and plumbing tape to fit the trap /regulator and I should have a good source of air, about time as well. Long overdue, thanks for all you help guys.
