Re: Motor help
How the hell did the rod snap? Just rebuild it, forged rods and pistons and such.

Re: Motor help
This same thing actually happened to a parts car I am going to buy(93 talon TSI). I looked into rebuilding it. Most likely you might have to bore out the original motor. I looked up pistons and rods on www.slowboyracing.com and if you get eagle rods and mitsubishi pistons (.020 over) it is only about 500 bucks. Of course there is the fee for boring it out and all but, if you want to keep the motor you would probably have to do that. Otherwise just buy a new motor?

Re: Motor help
You'll be able to rebuild it if you are lucky. Most of the engines that I have know that have thrown a rod were almost 100% unusable. You can only bore the cylinders out like .040" and with a rod breaking, I bet you'd have much more than that. Did the rod go out the side of the block? Blow the rod cap out of the oil pan? i would just get a new engine. I bet that one is about toast. After the rod went, I bet the piston was bangin around in there fucking up the head/valves and scoring/gouging out the cylinder walls.

Re: Motor help
even if there is some deep grooves you can always sleeve the cylinder and that would make it stronger anyway

Re: Motor help
Yeah thats true, but thats way too much money/effort to be putting into a 93 with a 7 bolt. If you really like the car get a 6 bolt, but if it were me, I'd just get rid of it (though I'm biased, I very much dislike 93-94's
).
