I hear that the air suspension systems in the towncar are very expesive to fix. Allot people have told me that they can cost as much as $4000.00 or more. My qusetion is I have seen the complete systems sold on the internet from suppliers for between $200.00 to $500.00 for the complete system. Why does it cost so much when the parts dont seem like that they cost that much in proportion to the overall job and is it hard for someone to install on there own if they wanted to go ahead and buy the parts themself? Thanks

Re: General Towncar Airsuspension question
I think it would cost that much at the dealer however 4k sounds a little steep the thing that costs most is labor. i didnt feel like spending alot on replacing everything so i just went with some good ol springs and now i dont have to worry about it anymore

Re: General Towncar Airsuspension question
That price that you were given sounds more like for the Continental, not the Town Car. The continental has air bags on all four wheels. I was quoted a price of $3600 from the dealer for a complete system for the Continental. That was four wheels of air springs, struts in the front, shocks in the back, computer module, air compressor, fuses, and relays. I converted my Continental to springs, and did not like the ride. The dealer told me the wrong thing, all I needed was a control module. I was wondering I have a 1996 Town Car, and could not imagine how the ride would be with springs, how is your car riding, compared to the air bags you onced had.

Re: General Towncar Airsuspension question
The car is still on its original suspension with 62,000 miles and it rides great. I am just wondering if and when the system does go how much it would cost me to replace it (I am from Boston where the roads are a joke). Its funny how you mention how the contientals are more for there systems because my friend was refering to a contiental when he told me about the cost but he said that they were bascially the same and would be the same to repair given they both had the same problems.

Re: General Towncar Airsuspension question
I had my air bags replaced and my compressor the air bags cost me like $ 75 each and the compressor was 125 plus like 30 or 40 core charge.Dont remember the name but i think it was suncore the number is 1 888 259 1505 and it took a friends shop about 1 hour to replace the air bags. The compressor took about a half hour after we finnally found the dang thing. It was really easy I watched em do it and It shouldnt be any where close to that 4000 dollar quote.I have heard of dealers charging close to that but not that much and to any one thinkin of ditching your air ride DONT DO IT rides like al the other cars bumpy and not like a luxury car should.

Re: General Towncar Airsuspension question
I have just had the air suspension on my '95 replaced. The entire job cost me in the neighborhood of $850. That included two air bags at 190 @; an air pump from a salvage yard at $250; and labor of $124, and tax. I don't intend to keep the car much longer so I chose the salvage pump instead of a new one. The air bags were ordered from a source by the repair shop that was not a Lincoln/Mercury dealer which saved about $60 apiece. We've driven it for about a week now and we're enjoying the ride we originally had. Just my input to get some to realize these dealers will really shaft you--if you let them. JIM
