Old Metallica... New Metallica.. Nu...old? I dunno?

Well, I have been a huge 'Talica fan since about 99 when I was about 11 years old. I only heard stuff off Re-Load (about the time it came out) off a new friend of mine who became my best friend in highschool.

within 2 years I was a die-hard fan, and defended them and praised them like a god.

Behind all the "sold-out" rep they gained from Load and Re-load, I still loved those stuff, being 15 years old at the time, I couldn't listen to slayer for 9 albums straight, and those two albums to me were a get away from the thrash that was the Justice album, into a more mellow feel that gave the abiance of a more relaxing atmosphere, sorta like from Mozart to Chopin.

Still a die-hard fan, I bought the St. Anger album, and I did love it for a little while, I listened to it a lot, but after about 3 months, I was to never really pick it up again, but if a song came on my playlist I wouldn't change it, there was some good stuff on that album, but it was overall dissapointing.

Read below, from link here

Quote:
Lars Ulrich has exclusively revealed to Kerrang! magazine that the band's new material has an "old-school" Metallica flavor.

The metal legends are currently working on the follow-up to 2003's "St. Anger" in their own studio at Metallica HQ in San Rafael, California. "The last album was an unusual Metallica album in that no one brought ideas into the studio. Everything you hear on that album was given birth to in the studio," the drummer notes. "This time around we've each brought in ideas as we used to — as well as working on some jams we had from from two summers ago — and James [Hetfield] and I are sorting through our CDs of riffs to put together stuff as we did back in the day.

"The new stuff is much more organic, more old school. It certainly doesn't feel like 'St. Anger' Part Two," Ulrich adds. "When we were rehearsing for our South African shows and started playing the 'St. Anger' stuff, it definitely felt very different to the rest of the set because of how the songs were put together. It was really important to make that record in the way we did because of the chaotic internal vibe at that time: 'St. Anger' was a statement, 55 minutes of brutality packed onto a CD, proving to ourselves that we still had the spark. 'St. Anger' was fun but we don't need to make that album again."
Ulrich says that the band have six or seven songs nearing completion, minus vocals and they are using producer Rick Rubin, famed for his work with Red Hot Chilli Peppers, System of a down and Slayer, for the first time. This collaboration marks the end of the quartet's 15-year relationship with producer Bob Rock, but Ulrich insists the split was drama free.
"We had a great time with Bob," he admits. "But it seemed that after 15 years it was time to try some different things and get a different perspective. As you get older you get set in your ways and get very fucking spoilt. It was important for as to not get stuck. Rick makes everything — he sees the big picture and has big ideas. It's working out great. We're excited hearing shit come together!" Metallica's as-yet-untitled album is expected in early 2007.

I am so excited of this news! They are actually digging up shit they wrote up to 10 years ago! this is aweome!

I cannot wait for this album, I already have high expectations!

They even admited ST.Anger was basically crap and they wouldn't do it again (lol).

Woot! Yay for metal!

Dude...just buy it. I've heard this many times over and I've nutted myself many times over at the thought of the new album. All I will say on this issue.

Pfft....sounds like a load of marketing bollocks. They have been saying that about every Metallica album since Black.

I'll wait and see. In fact, just for shutting down Napster, I might pirate it off the net and give it a spin when it comes out.

don't get your hopes up, metallica doesn't the same fire they used to have. 10 bucks says this album flops.

Hey if they bring back solos (which I'm pretty confident they will) and Lars stops using a garbage can for his snare drum (not so sure on this issue) it'll be a hell of a lot better than St. Anger. Plus Bob Rock isn't producing this one so we should get a little bit of a different sound going.

I agree.

It may have one or two okay songs on it, but it won't be the head-banging black album and pre-black album sounds.

Besides how can anyone believe a word that comes out of Lars' mouth anyway? He's just pussy and far from the defined rock and roller.

i'd give it a listen before buying it, only cuz st. anger really sucked sweaty nut sacks and made me waste 10 bux. One can only hope that they've gotten better, i would like to hear some nice metallica again.

Actually I just thought about this. Everyone should boycott Metallica's next album and download it illegally or pass it around to everyone.

"Album sales in the opening week for Metallicas - ______ album is 1."

"Number of copies passed around the net is 1 million"

Re: Old Metallica... New Metallica.. Nu...old? I dunno?

I have to let someone else buy it first so I can listen to it. Before St. Anger came out they said the same thing about that album. Oh it's gonna be like our old stuff and then I bought it listened to it and threw it out. Very disappointed.
