1999 Cherokee Sport signal/flasher problem

I'm hoping you folks can help me with this problem. The signals are no longer working on my 1999 Cherokee Sport and the lights just stay on solid. I used to think this meant that one of the bulbs were out, but all of them work. I've checked the fuse for the signals/flasher/defrost, and it's good. The lights stay on solid when the flasher is turned on also, so I'm pretty sure both relays are good.

Any suggestions are greatly appreciated.

Thanks.

Re: 1999 Cherokee Sport signal/flasher problem

I have the exact same problem as you on my 99 Cherokee limited same body style as the sport. I have checked my lights, changed my signal light switch and still same problem. If you find the solution please tell me what it is.

Re: 1999 Cherokee Sport signal/flasher problem

I'm having this same problem. I've checked the signals, the flasher, the fuses and the bulbs..everything is fine. I'm stumped on this one..Iv'e even brought it to 3 different mechanics and they can't find the problem. The closest I've come is that it might be a short or grounded out wire in the steering column..but I'm a little reluctant to tear the coulumn apart and test every wire.

If anyone has anyone has found a solution please let me know.

Re: 1999 Cherokee Sport signal/flasher problem

is the 99 the same as the 2000? If it is there is a combination flasher located in the power distribution center under the hood on the passenger side fender, where all the other relays are. This "this combination flasher controlls both turn signals and four way flashers all in one. Have you guys tried replacing it?

I dont know if they are the same..but the 99 does have the power dist. panel under the hood. The combination flasher I checkd was inside and it was fine.

Re: 1999 Cherokee Sport signal/flasher problem

Hello, i have a 99 classic with the same problem. after replacing the combo flasher under the dash i still had the same problem. this is a well known cherokee problem from 97-01 with the turn signal/hazard switch. around 53 dollars at the dealer and easy to replace. you don't even have to take the steering wheel off. apparently the contacts get worn in the switch. i noticed if i fool with my hazard switch i could get my turn signals working again. 1 hour for this novice to replace. you have to take three to four panels off the column. and if you don't have tilt wheel you might have to unbolt the column to get two inches clearance. good luck mike.
