car wont start up need info

we have a 89 cav with the 4 banger in it. was running and went to turn it off to add oil and it woudnt start . found it wasnt geting gass and wen added it woud backfire flames a bit out the carb and in side like it sounded like a backfire down a tunnel. i figured timing well i tore it a part and nope was told to disconect the batery for a bit so i did and wen i reconected i now have fuel thats good i checked spark theres spark but it seems it is continuously sparking as each valve in all cyl are opening n closing to mutch spark if you ask me coud this be from a crank sencer or a ignition timing scencer or? any one have any info that woud help wed like it mutch 1 gas guzzlin truck for 2 people and a 20 mile trip 8-10 times a week is not helpin with the gas prices so hi. this car just roled over and is like new 4000miles loli wish only 4000 but still gets 35mpg

Sounds like it jumped time. Have you checked the valvetrain timing for accuracy, and wear? Also, what size engine is it?

An 89 Cavalier 2.0 has no carb.Its TBI.Might look like a carb,but its injected.
I bet you have a module go to heck.Its under the coils on the back of the engine.Usually they go when you key off,and then try to key back on.POP!
Has your TV ever blown up while you were watching it? A light bulb? Nope....usually pops when you feed it power (turn it on).
