'99 SL2 squeal after start

I have a question regarding a '99 SL2 approx 98,000 miles.

Over the last few days, an interesting squealing has popped up intermittently after starting the vehicle and beginning to drive forward. Below I have described the sequence of events to cause, and stop the squealing. Any help you folks can give would be much appreciated.

1: Start the car.
2: Begin driving forward. So far I have not seen the problem in reverse
3: The care will begin to squeal, coming from under the hood.
4: Stepping on the brakes will cause the squealing to stop, and the squealing will not return during driving.

thanks,

sounds like the brake wear indicator might be hitting the rotor. the rotor has to be moving forward in order to make it squeal. that is my first guess, so id check the brakes first off.

Re: '99 SL2 squeal after start

saturnspeed, just saw you signature, sorry to heare about your SL2.

I haven't gotten a chance to look at the brakes yet, but if what your stating is true, I would expect that the rotors would need a replacement due to worn holes that go over the studs. Is that your thought? If your thought is correct, it could also be possible that loose front lugnuts could be causign this issue as well then, allowing the rotors to move from their normal position.

Thanks for your help,

Re: '99 SL2 squeal after start

well normally when the brake wear indicator hits the rotor, it can groove it, so rotor replacement might be needed (turning the rotors normally arent worth it because they are thin new). but i would definitely look into the brakes first off.

oh and about my car, it does suck, but i just picked out my new project vehicle which will be a 93 sc2. it will be fun, just sucks losing the first one.
