wierd question

alright heres my question, I was wondering what exactly i would have to do in order to make a swith to shut off the spark plugs and fuel injectors to 2 cylinders, making my 3.5 run on 4 cylinders. the when i want the power of all 6 just flip the switch. i thought about this the other day when i saw the gas prices. plus i thought it would be a pretty cool idea.

I know the car has a "limp home" feature if it runs out of coolant/overheats. so maybe there is a way to rig somethin to a switch to enable this feature for better fuel economy? thanks ahead of time for any info

Re: wierd question

The limp-home mode will certainly not give you better mpg. Instead, it will eat fuel and ruin your oil all in an effort to protect your engine from overheating.

Re: wierd question

I highly doubt you can do cylinder de-activation with this engine. there are only a few engines on the market that have that capability and from what I have read in other forums, I'm not sure people are seeing the fule savings that have been touted.

the best thing you cna do with this engine to save fuel is keep it tuned, keep the fluids changed and watch your speed. this engine gets thirsty if it has to downshift too often on the highways. (the rolling hills on 83 kill me) Otherwise 27-28 mpg on the highway is not out of the ordinary. that is not too far behind vehicles like the Accord (4cyl.), Corolla, jetta, etc.
