Intake Problems????

I have a 2001 GT with 77,000 Km. i installed a K&N intake about 7,000K ago, the problem is after everytime i drive it, after i turn the car off a few seconds later this grinding noise comes from the intake, this has been happening the entire time i have had it, i dont know if this is normal or a big problem, if anyone knows please help me out, thanks.

It may be normal. Are you sure the noise wasn't there before before you the got the K&N filter installed? I've heard the sound in my wife's '99 Regal LS with normally aspirated Series II 3800 and it doesn't sound like grinding to me. It sounds like a pressure sound or vacuum being released.......more like a "waaaaaah" type noise. The noise is centered around the throttle body and upper intake manifold (UIM) and occurs approximately a few seconds after you turn the ignition off. BTW - We've had the sound since the car was purchased new and it now has 115K miles.

The noise you're hearing is the purge vent solenoid releasing unburnt hydrocarbons from the intake to the vapor canister and nothing to worry about. Bob, your wifes Regal is sighing, because it's depressed that it isn't as fast as your GTP,
