Criteria for the Jeep's "Drive Cycle" ?

Saw my buddies at the inspection station again. This time I disconnected the battery which caused the emmisions computer to read "Not Ready" status. The facility manager said that I should find out what the "Drive Cycle" is for the GC. I searched this website and googled to no avail.

Does anybody know what the Drive Cycle criteria is for a 98 JGC 5.2?
(i.e. number of starts, cool downs, above specific mph, etc)

Factory manual talks around it but doesn't give the particulars.

Re: Criteria for the Jeep's "Drive Cycle" ?

I've seen it stated the PCM holds the first 50 times you come up to operating temp but I can't say as I've ever seen how many of the 50 you would need under your belt for an emissions.

I'm surprised the emissions people don't know. They must run into folks who've had work done all the time (and the battery disco'd) so they can pass the test.

The facility manager is a good guy, but they just don't care. It's a typical state job where the hardest part of your day is showing up. I rescheduled the appointment and I'm keeping track of my star/operating temp info.

There are different cycles for each monitor. Unless you check on each cycle I can not write them all out. Just drive the vehicle for a couple of days. Make sure fuel tank is at least 3/4 full. Also do some highway speeds and in city drives. This will most likely meet driven cyles demands.

Is there anywhere on the web that has the cycle requirements for each monitor?

I have the Factory Manual and both Diagnostic Procedures Manuals. I can't find the emmission monitor info anywhere.

Find out what drive cycle has not run. I will get it. I can find a site that has them. I know that you will not need to know all because some reset very easy. The O2 monitor and evap are the hardest to set.

Re: Criteria for the Jeep's "Drive Cycle" ?

I scheduled an appointment on Wednesday for another emissions inspection. I'll send you the sensors that weren't ready when I get back.

Thanks - Dave
