Revell - 427 Shelby Cobra

I have finally finished something........

This is Revell's 427 Shelby Cobra kit. I've painted it with Tamiya AS-12 Bare Metal Silver, trying to get an unpainted aluminum body look. I took some liberty with the decal placement making a phantom racer. The Chrome was stripped off the wheels, windshield frame, etc... and repainted with various metalizers and Duplicolor brand Chrome paint. I had problems getting the chassis to fit in the body and the stance was way too high as well as the wheels stuck out too far. I had to "adjust" a few things to get it to sit they way I wanted it to.

Re: Revell - 427 Shelby Cobra

Great Work on your Cobra, you have made a fine example of one. Looking at your build makes me want to jump in it and lite up those tires...speaking of tires, did they come with the kit or are they an "add-on" (if so, what brand and where can I get them?)

Thanks for the info and thanks for building your car.

Re: Revell - 427 Shelby Cobra

Nice Cobra. Looks great in AS12, but I’m unsure as to why you had problems fixing the body to the chassis. I built mine, and the body just fell onto the chassis for me, and the stance looked pretty realistic so I didn’t change anything. I did however strip off the chrome as it was the worst kit chrome I’d ever seen. And wasn’t the exhausts a terrible fitment? And I just couldn’t get the front windscreen to fit the frame, as my glass was warped.

The front of yours is a little lower looking at mine and yours now I look at it some more. This is mine, if you fancy taking a look –

Anyhow, nice model, good work.

Re: Revell - 427 Shelby Cobra

Thanks for all the compliments....

The tires I used are the ones that came from the kit. I lightly sanded the sidewalls to get rid of the shine, sanded the tread, etc... The blue stripe on the tire was done by flowing thinned flat blue acrylic paint into the groove molded into the tire. The Goodyear decals are out of a fujimi GT40 kit.

The exhuast in the kit were terrible... Mick, you did a much better job on them than I could (and your cobra looks great by the way). I gave up on my exhaust and used a set from a fujimi cobra kit. Painted them flat black and then used some artist pastels to lightly brush on some tan/gray heat effect.
