VR4 vs B20 swapped Civic hatch

This happened a couple days ago, tried to post and it got messed up. Newayz this kid who's my friends cousin has a B20 hatchback has been wanting to race me since I had my SL. So the first day I got my VR4 he shows up and we decide to finally go at it. I take the middle (turning) lane and he takes my right. I beep three times and we take off, by the end of first I had 2 cars on him, 2nd I had almost 4, 3rd he stopped falling back and stayed the same distance back, we shut down at about 110 (short road). This was all on my very bad clutch which slips in 2nd and through most of 3rd, can't wait to put a new one in! He ended up going to the track the next day and ran a 13.5 with slicks on, so now he wants a rematch. I'll give it to him, but this time i'm puttin money down on it...even with the bad clutch.

Re: VR4 vs B20 swapped Civic hatch

b20 yeah, crv engine.. it has alot of torque like 160 or more.. not sure.but 145 hp. but running 13.5 is really good..usually only runs mid to low 14 with that motor.. maybe he added vtec.. b20 vtec.. man, now that has alot of hp and torque..

Yeah it's Vtec...I don't know too much about Honda motors but I was pretty surprised to see him not just drop back outta sight.

B20vtec is no slouch in a car that weighs about 2000lbs.

Re: VR4 vs B20 swapped Civic hatch

b20vtec is supposed to be around 200 or so hp.
with all that torque too.. man is it a killer.. i havent
race one yet.. but i did lose to my friend at the track to
an lsvtec (180 hp but only 120 torque..)from the start i lost by 1\2 a car..but i still had the better time..
13.9 for me and 14.2 for him.. lol.. but if it was a street race man would i have lost.. where it is all about the reaction..

Re: VR4 vs B20 swapped Civic hatch

He ran a 13.5? Did he show you the time slip? I know that those hatchs weigh nothing and if you do them right they will haul but 13.5 is too quick for just the motor swap, IMO

Re: VR4 vs B20 swapped Civic hatch

Oh it's not just a swap, he has the motor built. I have no idea what's in it, but I know it's not stock internals...they have slips, i'll be going to the track with them as soon as I get my clutch in.

I wouldn't say 13.5 is out the question with a really good driver...

Your 1996 Mitsubishi 3000GT VR-4 is the 92nd out of the 315 that were made that year. Only 21 of which are exactly identical.

and a nice tiest pipe to finish it off. im not sure if you need 2 for the 3kgt. not really sure on how their exhaust comes off. but a nice downpipe and a test pipe will eliminate just about all backpressure from the exhuast. plus ur car sounds like a drag monster when u put it on. less lag on the turbos as well.

Most downpipes eliminate the cat already, so no need for a testpipe.
And we have td04-9bs...they're too small to have turbo lag
