What kind of a deal is this? Need 2 know ASAP
Alright, I was planning on getting a supra later in the summer, but I found one nearby with just about the amount of work I wanted to put into it, but I honestly don't know how good of a deal it is. I'm man enough to admit when I don't know something!
Here's the specs: 1994 Supra, Targa top Looks like someone hit a tree in it, because the frame rails are almost entirely straight, but the crossmember is literally snapped in HALF. The engine is NOT in the car, it's a 2JZ with a documented 30XXX miles on it. The overall body of the car is fine, it's just the front (no hood, windshield cracked where whomever wrecked it put their head through it, no front bumper, one fender just screwed entirely, other fender is fine.) Other than that, almost no body damage whatsoever. Interior's fine, but kind of disassembled (not a problem). And there is NO TRANSMISSION. But the engine's fine and in good shape. He wanted about $7,000 and I thought that sounded fair enough, but I definately wanted to check with y'all first. Let me know, and fast please.

Re: What kind of a deal is this? Need 2 know ASAP
What is the status of the title? It sounds like trouble to me. The Supra is a unibody, there are no frame rails, so just looking at the subframe rails won't tell you much. The car could be tweaked out, not could, probably is tweaked out. The only way to tell is to take it to a frame shop and have them measure it out. If the guy hit hard enough to break the subframe there has to be significant damage elsewhere that will impact handling. It sounds like a big project to me. If you plan on making a trailer queen show car out of it then I guess it is a good starting point. It is certainly cheaper than starting with a good vehicle. If you are looking for something that will see daily driving look elsewhere. If it is for track duty I would have the car checked out at a shop before buying to make sure the car isn't so far gone that it won't be able to handle properly. When dealing with wrecked cars be prepared to spend a lot of money putting the chassis right.

just measured it out-- chassis fine. I was a little concerned @ first, but I had it professionally checked. The first crossmember is busted. darn, and it looks like the power steering *whatever* in front of it is broken. I blanked on the word... power steering... tube... thing? WHATS THE WORD?! it's right in front of the crossmember, bolted to it. GRR... that's broke too. other than that, the body doesn't have a problem. How about now?

Re: What kind of a deal is this? Need 2 know ASAP
If the body man says the car is straight, and you are up for a big project then I suppose you could pick it up. Just remember that projects like this cost some serious money. The little things add up quick. Be prepared to discover more problems as you dig into the car. I would only pick up the car if you are planing on doing a build. If you are looking to take it back to stock then save yourself the hassle and buy different stocker that isn't all bashed up.
