2.73 or 3.23?

So I was on a site looking up engine specs and I noticed that gearing for the automatics has a standard option(2.73) then theres another option(3.23) so just wondering how do I know which gearing my car is set up for? Now I noticed the board has been dead lately so I'll wait a while for some answers..and if that fails I'll just ask on the camaro forum

Re: 2.73 or 3.23?

Check your drivers side door for your option codes.
If you see GU5 that's a 3.23 car and a 3 series carrier. If you see GU2 it is a 2.73 car and a 2 series carrier. Know what it is before you switch gears because the new gears will be carrier specific.

i know to check mine [second gen] and a friends 3rd gen camaro, u crawl under the passeneger side of the car by the rear diff, and on the top front part of the passenger side axel housing close to the carrier, it has the code stamped into the housing.. mine need to wire brush it a bit to get the code visible, then check ur haynes manual

Re: 2.73 or 3.23?

drive it up to 80 mph and floor it and if it downshifts to 2nd gear that means you got 2.73 gears.. my point is, 2.73 grears downshift almost at many speeds but 3.23 gears dont downshift as much as 2.73 gears do.

Re: 2.73 or 3.23?

After you run it up through the gears a bit...if you shift around 60mph, you have 2.73s. around 45-50, you have 323s.

when l floor my car, it shifts at 47-50mph to second and then right on 90mph to third and l dont know which mph to fourth because of the speed limiter.. and l think l got 2.73s.. am l right??

Re: 2.73 or 3.23?

okay, well first of all i have no parts sticker in my glovebox so as far as I can tell there is no easily visible parts identification on my car, anyway I took it out tonight for a drive and opened it up, not too hard but enough and i noticed a few things, I don't know what speed it shifts out of first but I did find that the car changed shifts at 45-50 and 60 mph, and it also downshifted at 80, so as far as I can tell I have 2.73's, I'm still not completly sure but I'm gonna look up some more ways to find some parts id on my car and maybe take it out again for some more hard driving

Nope, you should have 323s. Unless your transmission gearing has been changed. Then again, I don't know what year car yours is but if you have a 3rd gen and are shifting before that, you may have 3.08 gears(drum brakes are a dead giveaway with this) and 273 geared 3rd gens came with disc brakes(if my memory serves me correct.
