Angry GMC Sux!

I've had this '95 Jimmy SLE (4.3 Vortec) 4X4 for about 7 years now....I would never recommend a Jimmy to my worse enemy! VERY few problems result in a inexpensive fix on these things! Were the engineers drunk when they designed these things?! I have easily paid twice what I paid for originally for this mahine. New engine, 3 fuel pumps/senders, spider injector, 2 EGR valves, rebuilt tranny,,,,yadda yadda yadda. Actually when it "is running" I like it, that is the size, the interior, size, etc...BUT - I'm sick of spending BIG bux everytime something "simple" goes wrong. I'm really turned off by GMC at this point - I'm gonna go foreign next time....GMC dosn't give a crap about us "suckers" who spent our hard earned $$$ on their product. BAD GMC, BAD....

P-O'd in Columbus, Ohio.....

Re: GMC Sux!

These are very reliable vehicles, but like any other vehicle they must be properly maintained if you want them to last a long time.

This is a car enthusiast forum. People come here for help with their vehicles, and to help others. This isn't the proper place to rant and bash
vehicles/manufacturers, doing so only causes problems.

Cool Aplogies to GMC fans

OK, I apologize for the previous rant I made on my Jimmy...I wuz just P-O'd at the moment. Actually when my Jimmy is running good, I LIKE it! The fuel pump/line/sender thing just sent me over the edge. A bad couple of weeks. Mainly a 12 mile walk after the pump died at 1:30 AM! I've just had a bad series of events with mine.

I'm sending it to a shop of a friend who is going to re-do the fuel lines on Monday. Surley anyone can relate to being "stranded" for almost 2 weeks (I live in the country) and that would make just about anyone go nutz.

Overall, I like my Jimmy, I'm comfortable in it, it normally does what I need it to do. I have never had problems with the 4X4 feature, brakes are easy to change, and I feel safe in it.

Sorry if I offended anyone!!

Jon

Re: Aplogies to GMC fans

I am new here and just looking for help and can see why your thread was inappropriate. I would take it up with GM if I were you.

On another note, I fully understand your anger with GM

Re: Aplogies to GMC fans

I've owned my 2000 Jimmy new since December 1999. The only factory related problems I've had were the fuel level sensor, fuel pump and Transfer Case module. GM actually refunded me for the full cost of replacing the Fuel Pump at 60K. Every other small and large issue I've had with this vehicle has been due to improper maintenance. I can honestly say that 99& of my costly suspension problems have been due to a lack of proper lubrication. Although I had regular oil changes my grease fittings were never lubricated as they should've been. There are about 14 of these fittings in the front of my vehicle and technicians simply don't want to take the 10 extra minutes it takes to perform this service. Since I've been aggressive about this service and using WD-40 on door hinges and the hood latch to keep it from being stuck I've solved a lot of annoying rattles and problems with my truck. One word of advice...LUBRICATION, LUBRICATION, LUBRICATION

no offense, that prety much sums up my take of fords, personal. remember, if the manual says replace every 3000, check it ever 1500, keep it happy and you'll be happy. where i live, we replace fuel fiter 2X as per the manual, from sand, salt, cheap gas stations that have simulated filters.

Re: GMC Sux!

My only real beef with these trucks are the outrageously priced parts. My 98's parts are on avg 250% more expensive than the exact same parts for my Jeep YJ, in one case the parts were 900% more expensive. This is of course aftermarket (not dealer parts) and from a shop where I get the indy discount because I do so much business there. Other than that I love my truck.

Cheaper and easier to diagnose and repair than 6 injectors. And about the Jeep thing... I do understand. I was young once too, now that I'm older and wiser, I drive a GM.

if you look at it from a longevity perspective, the more a part wears out, the more are made and sold, demand driven economy, so as i have found with my jimmy, the parts are hard to come by because there isn't a big market for things that don't normally wear out. my problem is performance parts, as the v8's came out and the v6 was left without performance buyers to want them.
i like my gm's, have owned some other cars and truck in my days, but the gm's keep coming back.

That makes sense I guess. Although it sucks when parts cost this damned much lol. Although I can say the same thing has yet to break twice on my truck (knock on wood).
