intake hp?

Which would be better for my integra, ram air or cold air. For my del sol i bought a cold air intake with a anti engine seize valve. Now i heard that short ram sounds better n you get more hp. I thought that the cold air is what give the hp. My sol gained about 5hp, but people are telling me that every car is different n i hear different things. Hook me up with some advice. Also i heard some stuff about an iceman kit for an intake systems. Don't have a lot of details on that.

Re: intake hp?

honestly an intake won't make much of a hp difference anyway web sites say 5 and that its dyno tested and everything but its bullshit you'll get maybe 2 or 3 hp from an intake don't matter too much whether its short ram or CAI i have a CAI on my integra and i liked the sound thats all i really noticed no so much a hp gain

Re: intake hp?

2 or 3 hp around the top end. The differences between CAI and SRI are almost negligable. My car did get a weee bit faster up top after I installed it. The sound from either is nice. Buy a cheap ebay intake system, and then buy a decent filter from K&N or something. You will come out much cheaper than a brand name, and have the same gains.

Edit: In retrospect, I wish I had done that. Although there were absolutely no fit problems with the AEM CAI I installed.

Re: intake hp?

A CAI system i was told is great if you get a performance chip that tells the engine its injecting cold air. Then i heard that SRI systems aren't as great because they doen't get enough air. As far as the engine sieze problem i found a place that sells valve cheap. The valve gathers moisture and spits it out. I don't know i hear different things from different people i figure i'd ask people who have integra's and can tell me which is better.

Re: intake hp?

As everyone has said... you really dont get that much hp out of an intake. You'll get a couple hp but you also get a better look in your engine compartment and the nice sound that comes with it. I was originally going to go with an AEM short ram on my 98 civic, but was at kragen and just picked up one of the APC ones. Fits fine, no problems, looks great, sounds great, and I get my extra 2-3 hp (yippee). I knew I wasn't going to be getting much hp out of it, I just did it mainly for looks and sound. I'll throw a K&N filter on in a little while, but for now the filter that comes with it is fine.

maybe it is all in my head, but it definatly did move the power band up to higher rpm, but it did add a little power, the sound is awesome tho, and whats the diff between a pipe and k and n from ebay, or the same shaped pipe from aem. there cant be any diff between name brand and name short rams, its to short fo a pipe to make a diff, thts my opinion

Re: intake hp?

cold air intakes will give you a little more power and increase throttle response, but if you want some power out of an intake you need to spend a little more and tear into the car a little further...this will give you more power, but its too bad i'm fresh out right now....
