Cirrus turns over but will not start

My wife was given the 97 chrysler cirrus as a gift for 100.00. the veh only had 90,000 miles. Ran good for about a year hit 100,000 miles and has ton's of problems. Never owned a veh this unreliable before. 2 days ago wife came to a stop sign and the car stalled and would not start back up. I had the veh towed to my house. I turned the ignition on and could not hear the whirring noise that is supposed to come from the filler area. I then replaced the fuel module 208.00 and the fuel filter. I am no mechanic but I am motivated to save money this took me all day. I then put everything back together and that did not solve the problem. The veh attempts turns over and sounds good doing this but it will not start. checked all fittings checked the egr valve that does not appear to be it. All connections are good any idea? by the way I hate this car! I have a 97 nissan altima with alot more miles and the thing never breaks down.

Re: Cirrus turns over but will not start

Did you bother to put a fuel pressure test gauge on the fuel rail before you spend good money to replace the fuel pump? What about the ignition system, was the car generating spark or did you bother to look? Its always a good idea to properly diagnose the problem and verify which part is actually bad before you start replacing things. I would like to be the fly on the wall when something finally breaks in your beloved Nissan. I'm would be sure to get a good laugh!

Re: Cirrus turns over but will not start

You may want to check the flywheel position sensor (sits on top of the "bell housing" of the transmission). The sensor is pretty cheap and is very easy to replace. When this sensor goes out the engine will not start up at all. The compter shuts down spark and fuel to the cylinders. When I replaced mine it took me about 5 minutes to put the new sensor on and the car started right up.
