98 blazer dies on starts

Almost every time I go to start my blazer It will start but die almost right away the rpms go to about 700 then they just drop and the lights dim and it dies. The only way I am able to keep it started sometimes is to hold the gas down when i start it and hold it at about 1000 rpms for a good 30 seconds to a minute then I let off the gas and it idles correctly. Also sometimes when I go to start it i'll turn the key and it will click but nothing will happen I will have no electrical power at all, then i'll have to play with that for a good 5 minutes till it clicks back on then i'll have power. and also my windshields wipers sometimes dont work and even when my turn signal is off it still makes the blinking noise which drives me crazy. any help would be greatly greatly appreciated thank you

Re: 98 blazer dies on starts

Wow, sounds like you may have a couple different things going on there. Have you checked the battery connections? That's a possible cause to the power problem. I know I've seen threads about the ignition module going bad, that sounds like a more likely cause. Not idling may be caused by the idle air control motor. I've had the problem of the wipers working only when they feel like it. I haven't gotten around to fixing it but believe it's the wiper control module.

First check the battery terminals and then the positive cable to the starter and neg to block. Check the alternator output (look at your gauge and it should be around 14v) and check the battery too when off 12.6v or if lower by 2.1v (10.5v) you lost a cell. All the local shops test for free.
