engine light

My check engine light comes on sometimes when i start my car and will stay on until i turn it off. my care doesn't seem to run any different and if i stop and shut my car off and then turn it back on the light ussualy wont come back on. does anyone know what could be the problem and if installing a performance chip will make things worse?

Take your car to Autozone, and have them pull the codes for you. That will give you a general direction to start.

This is an EF/EG forum, we don't have OBD2. You need to short the little plug under the glove compartment (aboue ecu) and read the codes as they will flash on the gauge cluster as you turn the ignition on.
