Exclamation Preformance

I got a 1993 Mercury Tracer LTS (same thing as a 93' Escort)
I was wondering what I can do to my car to make it faster and have more horsepower than the 127hp it has (i think). What type of engines can i swap it with? Can the stock engine be turbo'd? What parts will I need?

Please help.

Re: Preformance

I think a LTS is like a Escort GT. Not just an average Escort.

Re: Preformance

You right, LTS is GT i believe.

Are there any actual performance parts for any Tracers or Escorts? I've search so mcuh all I could find is filters, spark plugs..all that usless stuff that doesnt gain hp at all or barely...

im thinking of saving my money for a 95-97 eclipse (gs-gsx-gst..any)

:-\

cuz i gotta get new tires..my pirelli tire in the front left have like 0 life left...lol..the paint or what ever it is between the windows and the dorrs (that black stripping) is chipping off, need new brakes...there is just so much for me to fix on it :-\

what to do...?

Re: Preformance

For someone who has an LX- I think that the 2.0 swap is easier, because it's basically a direct bolt on when you keep various parts from the 1.9 liter engine.. I can't remmeber what parts of the engine you have to keep, but it's out there.. I think it's at FEOA.net in the How-To's, but I'm not sure.
Swapping a LX to a GT engine takes alot of time and work, and from what I hear it's a real pain.

You say the SPI sux's to, but yet my SPI is making more power then the average GTX swapped Escort. The SPI swap for a LX is a lot eayer and can be cheaper to, so exsplain that one to me.

My completely stock 1.9 short block is making 212whp and 262ftlbs at the wheels. That was with stock 1-7/8" Exsahst. At the crank thats about 300ft lbs of tourq.
It's turbo'd.

I've allready been down that road. I'd rather turbo the SOHC than go though the trouble of swapping to the Zetec. The Zetec has better head flow, but when it comes to a boosted SOHC vs Zetec it's easy and practicly free just to bump the boost up a psi to make up for it, lot cheaper to buy a boost controller then it is a Zetec motor swap. Plus the lower compression and cheap replacement cost of the SOHC motor is a good thing.

Who said any thing about a T3/T4?
Bolt on parts are ghey, it's a quick way to waste a lot of money and time for very little power in return. The only thing that will really help you is large exshaust when turbo'd.

Are you comparing boosted SOHC vs boosted zetec? If you;re comparing boosted sohc vs n/a zetec of course it will make more power.. boost the zetec and that's a different story.

I know it prolly isn't the most 'cost effective' swap. I was just stating an idea.. since he asked what motors you could swap in tere.
