1988 Pontiac 6000 TCC Soleniod

I just got an 88 Pontiac 6000 (2.5L). The person who sold it to me told me that he unhooked the solenoid for the lockup on the tranny necause it was stalling when you came to a stop. I have 2 questions, first does anyone have a part number or a place I can order this from. Secondly, can someone please give me a quick idea of what needs to be done to the car to change it. Thanks!

Search on Google for TCC solenoid and you'll find many sites with help on it. As for part # you may have to call GM dealer

On an 88 Pontiac I wouldn't even bother with that solenoid. I removed mine in a 91 Sunbird and never gave it a second thought. You do lose a little in the gas mileage department but unless you do a lot of highway driving you might not even notice.

My 1991 6000 has the same problem, the only fix is to get a rebuild kit, and the transmission needs to be removed. In my opinion it's a waste of money to only gain a few mpg back.

Re: 1988 Pontiac 6000 TCC Soleniod

The trans may have to be dropped to gain access.... But the TCC solenoid is located on the Valve Body behind the side pan.. Unplugging the Connector leaves the ECM with no idea what gear the trans is in, and will also cause the trans to overheat if driven long distances..

The Solenoid is cheap, just a bit of a PITA to install it.... If you were to take it to a shop to have it repaired look to spend $200-$400
