EGR system trouble

got 2002 g2o about 63000 miles, couple days ago started idoling ruff and also starting hard, so changed the plugs,air filter,fuel filter, no change then the check engine light starts coming on, pulled code p1402 (EGR SYSTEM)also have no warrenty. the car cranks over like 20 times before it starts and then once it starts it idols like crap, almost tries to die, but once driving there seems to be no problem,dont want to drive it like this even though it seems to run ok, anyone got a fix for my problem. any help is greatly appreciated

I just got my whole EGR system replaced in my P10. Car was doing the same things. Cost about $900 because we did the repair in two stages - first didn't resolve all of the problems.

We have this problem alot in the uk. you can replace the unit, very expensive. or as we do is to remove the egr diaphram and clean it. All the happens is the diaphram gets stuck in the open position allowing to much air into the inlet, causeing poor idle.
You can also move the diaphram with your fingers to check the operation before strip if needed. This will tell you if the egr is the problem
