Thumbs down 1998 Accent Transmission Problems

New member...
Here's my problem, I have a 1998 Hyundai Accent and the transmission slips from 3rd to overdrive and sometimes from 2nd to 3rd (with and without the overdrive button engaged). If you let off the gas pedal, the tranny will eventually go to the next gear, but this sucks when entering the freeway. I have been trying to get some answers but now luck. I've herd it can be the pulse generator or maybe some sensor in the transmission and even been told to replace the tranny. Can someone give me some feedback with the issue??

Re: 1998 Accent Transmission Problems

i have a 1995 accent, my trannsmission would slip in almost every gear until eventually it would not go forward at all. i took it to the shop and the mechanic could not tell me what it was, he had no idea. i decided to replace the transmission. $736.00 later i had a new tranny and it ran great. i am under the impression that the transmission fluid used in my tranny was not intended for an accent transmission. i have been told that these cars have a very sensative tranny, as far as what fluid you can use. if i were you, i would take the car to your local hyundai dealership and have them power flush the tranny and fill it back up with their fluid. if it fixes the problem then great, if not, then you are out like $100. either way it is cheaper than replacing your transmission! i did this and it helped a little, but my tranny was in much worse shape than yours is in now, so it might help.

Re: 1998 Accent Transmission Problems

also, as weird as this sounds, the next time you car slipe out of gear give the key a little turn forward. not enough to grind the starter but just enogh to turn off the radio and stuuf like that. when my accent woul slip out of gear i would turn the key a little and it would go right back in. i sometimes had to hold the key like that until rpm's went down and the tranny caught. like i said, mine was in much worse shape, but i am very curious to see if this little trick i learned works on your car too.

good luck with your tranny,
-Mario
