1990 brake problem
Hello all just found the forum while searching for answer to this problem...
L/F caliper holds some brake pressure all time. I pulled wheels to look at ft pads and noticed L/s was dragging. I needed a long screw driver to turn the rotor. I loosened the bleeder and the rotor spun freely. My first thought was flex hose as i've replaced these for the same problem. replaced it but still the same. Have to open bleeder to get rotor to spin freely. Don't have full pedal pressure but just enough to cause severe drag. Could ABS cause this. Any have any ideas. Thanks |

Re: 1990 brake problem
Problem gone for now, changed and bled all brakes, fresh fluid throughout the system, after the ABS cycled a few times with the new fluid the left front started to release as normal, not what I'd call a definite fix, but we'll see. Going back over the problems I'd say it definitel has something to do with the ABS module.

Re: 1990 brake problem
I don't agree with puttin' the rap on the ABS.
The ABS makes the caliper LET GO of the wheel, when the vehicle is movin' foward, and the wheel is about to stop rolling out of sync with the vehicle forward speed. I dont think anything about the ABS would make it GRAB. I'd like to know for sure on that one tho'... But I'm bettin' on the caliper not moving side to side, as it should. Can you tell, when it's hard to turn by hand, if ONE, or if BOTH pads are in contact with the rotor??? |

Re: 1990 brake problem
My 1st thought too, caliper and flex line were the 1st things replaced. The rotor could NOT be turned by hand after the brakes were pumped but only on 1 front wheel, the other worked normally. After a few minutes the pressure would "bleed off" and the rotor could be turned normally. It may have been as simple as an air bubble in the line, but the full bleed and fluid replacement seems to have done the trick.....
