Angry won't pass emissions in missouri

Took car for emissions test, flunked with flying colors. Had 4 error codes
P0300 Random/Multiple Cylinder Misfire detected
P0303 Cylinder 3 Misfire Detected
P0171 System Too Lean Bank 1
P0420 Catalyst System Efficency Below Threshold Bank 1

Recently had a tune up air filter, spark plugs, fuel filter changed. Mechanic also used Sea Foam to see if they're was a dirty fuel fuel injector. Also today did a test to check enginge compression and test engine cylinder leakage. Mechanic said either a new engine or new car. Car acts really sluggish and sputters when starting and while merging into traffic off of exit ramps, or at intersections. Please help please read. Could one be causing the others. Thanks chrissybe

Was this miss or roughness there before the tune up, what exactly has the mechanic diagnosed, the misfire on 3 can cause all the other symptoms.

Yes, it has been acting sluggish before tune up. Well we took it to one place and they guy that looked at it said that the engine was shot. To get a new engine or a new car. But would the car even run if it was the engine that was shot. It does have alot of miles on it. No gas smells, engine knocking or smoke coming out of the exhaust.

Also took it back up to emmisions testing and it didn't have any codes but on the OBD it didn't pass on the calalyst and evaporative system but was ok on the misfire

We are bouncing all over the place here, did you fail for codes or a tailpipe test? You may need a cat at high mileage, how was the evap system involved in the failure was there a code to reflect this?

Exclamation Re: won't pass emissions in missouri

It's too bad the original thread author never bothered to share his original findings.

I have a 2000 Prizm that has the EXACT error codes listed above. I plan to try and clean the MAF and replace the spark plugs. Maybe even rip out the catalytic converter if it's a problem.

If anyone has more information on what could be the problem it would be appreciated.

The car will basically not accelerate even after being warmed up.

Re: won't pass emissions in missouri

I cleaned out the MAF with brake cleaner, installed new spark plugs and cleaned the ignition coils. Car runs just fine now...
