'01 Sub 8.1L - Crank position sensor

My sub is in the shop getting the crank position sensor replaced. The shop said it would take 1 hour + parts and I okayed the repair. I then got a call back and was told that the sensor was in pieces and one of them dropped into the oil pan. Now the pan has to be removed (5.2 hrs @ $80/hr!!). Can anyone tell me if this is a problem caused by the shop screwing up during the removal of the sensor. It obviously has to be fixed but I am not ready to pay for this if it is a problem created by the shop.

Thanks
