Loud Noise From Right Front
Here's my problem. I have a 96 LT with 125k on it. Heard a howling noise this morning from the right front. I thought I had a flat but noticed no difference in feel. As I let off the gas it got louder and louder. Took the wheel off and didn't notice anything. Rotor turned freely. Could it be an axle or is it sometrhing else?
Also, I replaced rear brake shoes and wheel cylinders the other day and when I tried to bleed them I got absolutely no fluid from the cylinders. Still getting plenty from fronts but nothing from the right rear. What should I do? |

Re: Loud Noise From Right Front
The first problem sounds like a wheel bearing.

Re: Loud Noise From Right Front
Thanks. That was the same idea that I had. Seems like a pretty easy fix. With it being 4WD it comes as an assembly. Doesn't look too hard. Auttozone has it for $112.99 and I have a relative that works there. The extra discount won't hurt. Will tackle it today.
Thanks |

Re: Loud Noise From Right Front
Okay. Changed the hub assembly and still makes the same noise!! What else could be the cause.

Re: Loud Noise From Right Front
I believe I have a similar problem. Check to see if when the noise occurs and you hit the 4 wheel drive buttom does the noise stop. Mine does. I'm thinking transfer case but it could be the front axle. Let me know..

1996 LT Clicking noise only in 2WD
My problem is this: Had a loud clicking noise coming from right front. Thought it was a wheel bearing and with it being 4WD it comes as a complete hub assembly. Not really a problem. Bought one from Autozone for $112.99, again not a big deal. Replaced the old one but stiil I have a clicking noise. The noise only happens in 2WD and not in 4WD. Transfer case or axle? Also, can I still drive it and only use 4WD? Not being very familiar with 4WD should I use 4 Hi or 4Lo? I'm thinking 4 Hi but I want to be sure. Also what more damage is capable of happening in 4WD?
Thanks, Jeff |

Re: Loud Noise From Right Front
It could be your 4wd partially engaging. Usually the result of a bad vacuum switch on the transfer case.

Re: Loud Noise From Right Front
Will I cause more damage by driving in 4WD? You seem to be pretty knowledgable. What do you think?
