Re: in progress: Sheene suzuki RG500 '77
Excellent! I've been looking at this kit for quite a while wondering what the build quality is like. I guess I'll find out now!
The engine is looking good so far! Good luck with the build!

Very beautiful work.
Keep going the good work. The engine is awsome. You give him a wash? How you have done? Miguel Portugal |

Here's a new update on the suzi.
I've painted the other three exhausts And glued the engine into the frame, the rearshocks have to be painted. Now its time to put on the carbs and do some detailpainting on the frame. Denman

Re: in progress: Sheene suzuki RG500 '77
A little update from the Netherlands.
The carbs, radiator and hoses are fixed in place. The exhausts are dryfit to see where the last radiatorhose should come out. Also there has to be some detial painting been done ( weathering the carbs and paint some pieces on the radiator ) .Denman

Re: in progress: Sheene suzuki RG500 '77
I've done al lot of work since the last update.
So i need to post some new pictures of the sheene bike. Now i have to do some detailpainting to the frame. I have a little problem with the seatcover, the paint cracked after two days .The onli way to solve this problem is, sanding the part above the decals and paint it again. But i'm afraid for colordifferances. denman

Re: in progress: Sheene suzuki RG500 '77
Denman, well done on a great build of a kit that's obviously very short of Tamiya standards.
If I may be cheeky enough to say, the yellow decal edges really let your work down though...are they really printed that wobbly? For the new decals I'd suggest getting a proper scalpel handle and some 10a Swann Morton blades (chuck that X-Atco if you're using one) and get some thin French Curves (UK term I'm afraid...don't know what you call them in Holland) from an art supply shop. If they're just too expensive (and they aren't cheap) try cutting some freehand smooth template curves on thin clear plastic card - you can sand them smooth with a bit of 2000 grade if you're not happy with 'em. Use the F. Curves/handmade cards as a guide to cut right up to the edge of the decals really sharply -this also gets rid of any nasty carrier film edge. You'll need to practice on thin paper first to get used to finding the correct part of the curve to use for the particular decal and you may need to change the curve position half way along a cut. Try very thin paper (or cigarette packet film) to practice on as you only want to cut the decal film and not the backing paper. The trick is to only use just over the weight of the knife + slight pressure to cut and remember keep the blade at 90 degrees to the surface. Good luck! John S. |

Re: in progress: Sheene suzuki RG500 '77
Just realised that the red bits may also be part of the decals? If so, I'd still do as above cutting on the yellow/red border but paint the red sections first. You may need to use the red areas of the decals as a painting template. I'd probably scan and print them, using the print as a masking guide.

Thanx. Rod.
The decals arrived today ( after a trip around the world )First an other two days go to work, then I have a Week off before going to a new job. So in that week off I hope to do the seat cover again. In the mean time I finished the chassis by painting the last details and adding some wireing. I'm happy with the results ( for a revellkit ). The next bike project is also on the shelve: Tamiya Honda NSR factory colors with Studio27 rothmans decals for the gardner, spencer or roche machine of '86 . Kind regards. denman
