not impressed with vtec eg civic
i just had a run with a eg civic with vtec, im not sure which hatchback models had vtec in them, i could hear the damn vtec over my own muffler, holy sh8 vtec is freakin loud thats all i can say.....not sure if it was swapped or not, but it had vtec. We had a lil run, 1st till the end of 2nd gear, and he only got half a car on me and it stayed like for a while untill we hit 3rd, then he stopped and made his turn onto the highway, with my slow car, i was expecting him to leave me in the dust! but he only got about half a car length on me, my passenger door at his rear wheels, we went from about a 10 mph roll
my car 1994 toyota corolla 1.8L 115 hp mods: 2.25" piping + short shifter 2 people in car, me + my friend my friend is about 250 lbs, i need to find lighter friends his car, 1992-1995 eg civic hatch with vtec mods: all i could see is his exhaust and hear his vtec 2 people in his car, him + his passenger his passenger looked 130-140 lbs |

Re: not impressed with vtec eg civic
Could be a many things. He's a bad driver or you're just a better driver. Stock d16z6 (125hp) with bolt-ons. B16a or B18c1 with LS transmission. etc etc etc
But if it was the d16z6 engine, then you shouldn't be impressed at all. |

Re: not impressed with vtec eg civic
dont be fouled be the d16z6. they have potential to run 12 all motor. matter a fact theres a guy that a built an all motor d16z6 and ran 11.675@125mph. all day. now granted he put money into it but still, if u want to go fast u need either money or really good friends that can hook u up

Re: not impressed with vtec eg civic
this is the hatchback with vtec, and it's vtec was crazy loud as hell, what model hatchback did the vtec come in? i know the EX is with the sedan and coupes, isn't there a 1.5L vtec-e that came in the VX hatchback models?? does the VX vtec make that loud sound at all when activated?? or maybe his hatch was the SI model???? or maybe he just swapped in a d16z6 with his d15??? it cant be a swapped b18c1 cuz it would've had about 20 car lengths on me

Re: not impressed with vtec eg civic
The Si hb's have the d16z6 too. With an exhaust and intake, a VX or Si engine could sound loud. My friend has a VX engine in his 4dr lx (long story), with an exhaust, header, and intake; and that thing is loud as hell at high rpms. But then again it's also loud at all rpms.

Re: not impressed with vtec eg civic
^spoon, thanks for your posts so far, you'd think i get more replies if it was in the honda street/track racing section? but anyways, i meant the sound when vtec is ativated, does the VX model make this vtec sound in the higher rpms as loud as the SI, EX, etc etc??......this one is confusing me, i'll probably ask him when i see him around campusl (he goes to the same college as me)
but i'm guessing it's the d16z6 like you guys said because it nearly pulled away from me and i'm only at 115 hp, and him only 10 hp apart plus weight advantage |
