just got a 98 jetta gt (stick) mod suggestions

Ok I have heard every fast and the furious joke about jetta's ok. I have about $500 to spend but I also have a job so I willing to throw in about 100 a week. I was thinking an AEM cold air in take and a injen muffler or exhaust anything else.

Re: just got a 98 jetta gt (stick) mod suggestions

Welcome to AF! So...you gotta jetta...sell it and buy a honda. Plain and simple.

No really. With $500, I'd say save it. Build up your savings. And go boosted! I used to own a 95 Civic. And I spent every little penny I earned on simple mods here and there. In turn, it wasn't worth it. I should have saved my money. So...It would be wise to save up more money. I know you probably want to have a littel quickness right now, but seriously. Be patient.

I've heard that Jettas 98 and below have had their fair share of problems though, if I remember right? I don't know. But in future reference, please post in the non-specific area of the racing section. If you got a racing story, then post it here in this section which you have done so.

Also, there is a Jetta forum in the Volkswagen section, but if you don't get a respond, then please post in the Non-Specific section as I told you earlier! Welcome again!

Re: just got a 98 jetta gt (stick) mod suggestions

Ditch the wing idea.

Get a quality muffler like magnaflow.

I dont know much about AEM.

Re: just got a 98 jetta gt (stick) mod suggestions

I guess I would be the one to take this since I would assume I'm the resident jetta driver here. I would suggest getting a supercharger Kit for it. It would be the best bang for your buck and would cause the least ammount of problems. Since the car isnt turbo ready dont put a turbo into it unless you want to spend alot of money always trying to keep it in tip top shape. As for the cold air intake, dont get one. It's like $180 for a gain of 10HP to me not worth it until you need some sort of better air flow. The exhaust Ido recommend though, magnaflow is who you want to go with, they make good ones. There is my also post in the VW section, I visit there ever now and again.

Re: just got a 98 jetta gt (stick) mod suggestions

nope, it wouldn't. just paint it one full color, take off all the decals, and you have yourself a winner. unless he wants to keep it as 'one of the first in F&F' and sell it later on for some cold hard cash, but i dont see that happening.

[suggestion] Don't ever pay $200-$300 for an intake. $100/1hp isn't worth the stickers that come with it [/suggestion]

Re: just got a 98 jetta gt (stick) mod suggestions

just save your cash for now. learn to drive your car and experence new things with it. take it as one of your 'learning' process cars. learn how to properly launch, thats stuff. then after the money you have saved up for a year or so, u should have enough for a turbo kit, or sell and get a new car all together.. my .02 cents

Re: just got a 98 jetta gt (stick) mod suggestions

depends depends depends......on your situation, are you....still in school? living with mommie and daddie? good paying job? if you're like me(clickie and read under occupation) then you're gonna want a reliable car, good on gas, etc, keep it that way for a while, and be careful what you do. Technically, i'm living by myself, so i have to be careful what I do with my car since it's my only ride. You wanna think about your future, etc, before you think about dumping $$ into a car, if something happens, ie: an imergency or something and you dont have the $$, you're SOL, try to save up and slowly do what you want to the jetta. Well, hope i've helped you,.....
