Question Box Port direction?

:badass: I am building a ported box that will custom fit my trunk. If I get the recommended internal volume I will have open space between the box and the back seats that don't fold down. I will also have alot more open space on the other side in the trunk. My question is what way should i have my ports faceing. Should they blow into the trunk or should they be facing the back of the seats. Which way will sound better? Does the ammount of space between the box and seats matter?

Ports should be free of any obstructions for about 3" to be effective... especially if it is a dense/non-porous obstruction. But, it if it is going against the back of the seats it will prove no purpose since the fabric will absorb the sound. Also, it would be best that the ports should enter the cabin of the car to be more audible/noticeable.
For better SQ the subs should face the seats but, subs usually sound better overall facing towards the trunk.

It's your call... I like sealed boxes myself. :o

To keep from getting cancellation, and to build up pressure you should face the port in the same direction as the woofer.

Exclamation

:badass: Actually that was suggested by a friend and now i really want to put the ports through the rear deck lid and have it bounce off my rear window. I assume this would not cause cancelation because of the deck lid in the way. Any experts with input?

3" of clearance for the ports would be suitable, if the ports were 3 "
u need atleats the diameter of the port, for clearance.
and as for the reply about the port facing the same direction as the sub to avoid cancellation, that is wrong
it doesnt matter what direction they face
but the mod said have the subs face the trunk
theat is right, face them towards the back of the car to sound good
