How fast is my mustang?

Hey i was just wondering how fast my mustang was...i got some stats( 0-60mph in 6.2 and 1/4 mile in 14.9) but im pretty sure they are for manual mustangs and mine is automatic

Anyway, I have a 1992 Mustang 5.0 Lx, AOD, the only thing that i have put on it are tires. I have some Yokohama AVSES 100...dont know if that does any difference or not, doubt it

So my question is "How fast is my car on the 0-60mph and how fast on the 1/4mile?"

Thanks you for your time

Re: How fast is my mustang?

It depends. Is it stock? Do you have any modifications? I know you said it was an LX but, is it a coupe (trunk) or a hatchback? The coupe will be about 300 pounds lighter.

If it's a stock coupe I'd say high 14's in the 1/4, and if it's a hatch I'd say anywhere between 14.9-15.3. All depends on how you drive. I've had both a coupe and hatch LX. Although the hatch was a stick. With a K&N, bumped timing, and straight pipes the coupe ran 14.7. With the same stuff done to the hatch 5spd. it ran 14.2. All on street tires.

DO YOU KNOW ABOUT SHIFTING YOU AOD MANUALLY??

I've heard these numbers as well.

It also depends on the rear as well. A whole lot of fox bodies came with 2.73 rears but I think as an option you could get a 3.05. If you have a 2.73, don't expect much. If you have a 3.05 then you can put down low 14s, and a 0-60 time a little under 6 seconds.

I'm just guessing though on this.

Re: How fast is my mustang?

The gears you could get were 2.73 or 3.08 for stick and 3.08 or 3.27 for auto. My auto coupe had 3.08 and my stick hatch had 2.73. When my hatch was bone stock a friend of mine drove my coupe and the coupe had K&N 12" cone filter, bumped timing and straight pipes. I drove the hatch w/stick and it was a good race until I hit 2nd. That's when I started pulling away from him nothing crazy, just pullin away at a decent rate. My point here is even with the extra weight of the hatch and the hatch being BONE STOCK the gearing in the 5sp. trans was enough to make up for it's lack of power even with the better rearend gearing in the auto coupe. I beat him buy about a car length. I'd much rather have 2.73's and a 5sp. than to have 3.08's and an auto.

TOO BAD I DIDN'T HAVE THE 5SP. IN THE COUPE!!

It's a hatch and its stock except for tires and bbk cold air, which i doubt will do much of a difference.

True...I never did get to put new gears in my Mustangs but if I were to get new gears I wouldn't waste any time with 3.55 or 3.73, I'd get the 4.10's!!

Your shifter should say 1-D-OD-N-R-P. STart down in 1 then when you get close to redline hold the button in and move it up to D for half a second (you'll feel it) then move it down into 1 again. You're in 2nd now. Then when you get close to redline again move it up to D. You're in 3rd now. JUST MAKE SURE WHEN YOU DO MOVE UP TO D YOU DO NOT HOLD THE BUTTON IN!! YOU DO NOT WANT TO GO PAST OD-N AND ACCIDENTALLY INTO R OR P!!

THIS IS HARD ON THE TRANS. SO DO NOT DO IT TOO OFTEN!! UNLESS YOU HAVE A SHIFT KIT OR HAVE EXTRA TRANNY'S LAYING AROUND!!

It'll take some practice untill you get the timing down going from 1 to D and back down to 1 (then actually 2nd). It does make a differance, you'll go alot faster. Your cold air kit probably adds about 10hp at the crank. Bump the timing up to 14 degrees. That will probably add another 5-8hp. Doesn't sound like much but, add that to your 10 from the cai and you've got 15-18 more horse. 225hp+15hp=240hp. Alittle here, alittle there, IT ALL ADDS UP!!
