Re: GM Canada being sued over engine gaskets
At the risk of sounding stupid...
1. Does this affect only cars that were manufactured to be sold in Canada, or does this affect all cars within those years? 2. Does GM acknowledge that there is a problem or are they denying that the gasket is defective? 3. Are they willing to do anything about it (perhaps a recall) or are they waiting and hoping that the number of people who are directly affected is low and will quietly fix the affected cars, thereby keeping their costs lower in all of this (or just say "tough luck" and blame it on poor maintenance)? 4. Is there a particular point at which the cars that have shown problems are being affected (e.g. around XX,000 miles or at about X years old)? 5. Are there warning signs that can point to future problems here? Sorry for all the questions, but knowledge is power (and I can't afford a new engine ).

Re: GM Canada being sued over engine gaskets
This will explain the GM position on this issue. I would suggest that if you have a car that is included in the years mentioned, check your coolant in the overflow and radiator on a regular basis and keep an eye on the oil. First signs of coolant in the oil would be chocolate colored foam looking substance, inside the valve covers and inside of the oil fill cap.

Re: GM Canada being sued over engine gaskets
other than the possibility of GM haveing to shell out money, what's the shocker here?
![]() Even the 'series I' MPFI motors 85 & up had gasket problems. My 87, every 30K miles, headgaskets and intake. Last edited by wrightz28; 05-10-2006 at 10:46 AM. |

Re: GM Canada being sued over engine gaskets
GM would gain alot of respect by GM owners if they issued a recall! Maybe they'd make more money down the road with repeat customers if they understood the difficulties we go through in dealing with their screw-up's.
Hate to say it but I fully believe unless a few people die from it, or it's life threating, they won't recall it. They just redesign it and apply it to new cars. I am proud of the Canadians for joining together to battle GM! I hope this wears off on America to do the same, (if they win that is)! Got a 2000 PA Ultra we don't drive much cause of the worries. Good thread HotZ28! |
