Question Subaru Advice Please

I'm considering buying a used Subaru. Probably an outback, legacy, or forrester. In doing some research I've found a lot of people complain about engine problems (i.e. blown head gaskets, water pumps, as well as electrical and other problems). I definately want a dependable car I can rely on for many years to come. Whats the scope on Subaru reliability? Thanks for any help.

Re: Subaru Advice Please

bought my first legacy in 91, replaced engine at 146,000 (cracked head) rebuild tranny at 194,000. I love this car. Bought my wife a new imprezza in 2000 she drives 72 miles a day. put 110,000 on it NEVER a problem. bought her another new one in 2003. Has 145,000 now, replaced altenator. We live in a area of lots of snow and ice I wouldn't be comfortable with all the driving my wife does if she didn't have a Subaru.
Handling A
