Unhappy Wouldn't start

It was just below freezing last night and this AM when I went to work. My Expedition would not start. Totally dead. No lights nothing. I jump started it and then when I turned the ignition on the speedo and tach went to the limits and back. Also the radio had lost its memory. It appears that all power was lost. Now it all seems OK. I don't understand. I am thinking a relay frozen but wondering if their is any experience out their? Pete

Sounds like a bad battery or alternator.. A warning though! My Expy did the same thing one night after raining all night. My wife went out to start it in the morning and nothing happend. As it turns out some expeditions have a problem with the windshield leaking on the driver side. NHTSA has an open investigation on the issue. The water runs into the cab down the pillar down behind the dash right onto the GEM module. The GEM controls all the electrical. So in my case it shorted some connections turing on my radio and the climate control while no key was in it. Needless to say it killed a perfectly good battery overnight.

Re: Wouldn't start

Before you worry about GEM modules and fuse blocks, take the vehicle to an auto parts store and ask them to test the battery, it sounds very much like a dead battery. The gauge sweep is normal as when voltage is restored, it goes through a self-check to make sure all functions are working normally.

Get battery checked first off. They will check the charging system as well. I was really just babbling about my own problems more than helping...haha
