Tranny swapping
I've heard people on this board say that you can use the factory DX 5 speed transmission from the D15 on a 92+ civic D16 SOHC Vtec. Im not doubting, i just talked to a shop here in Kansas City that does swaps and they said that i'd have to get a transmission from a 1.6 and that the 1.5 tranny wont work. Whats the deal anybody know for real?

all d-series trannys are interchangable, even the 1.5 and 1.6s.

yup...all interchangeable as far as bolting to the engine...not necessarily interchangeable in different chassis...the tranny off your 1.5l will work fine...probably not the best choice, but its definitely doable...good luck.

Iused the dx tranny from my 91 hatch when i swapped the D16 in, if you can the si tranny is a better choice.

The DX 5-speed (from a d15b2) and the Si 5-speed (from a d16a6) have the same gears in them. The only difference is the final-drive gear, which means the motor will rev higher at any given vehicle speed with an Si tranny as compared to the DX.
Has anyone checked the gear ratios on a 5th gen Civic tranny to see how close they are to our 4g trannies? I would guess that since d16z6's are VTEC motors, their tranny is probably very similar to the 4th gen Si. You need a 4th gen tranny if you swap in a 5th gen motor because 3 of the 4 motor mounts are on the tranny!! Would a 5th gen tranny bolt into a 4th gen chassis? I suspect it won't.

Yeah I have heard of Dark Sol Motorsports.. I wonder if they could do the swap cheaper than Tokyo... Glad to see you own a clean civic in or general area (kinda I guess), I usually only see ugly riced out cars!
