need suggestions please.
alright i have a 92 talon tsi 6bolt. it has been runing bad and i replaced everything i can without tearing the engine down.
so i tear my head off and the thing looks like shit valves have gap and are all builtup just really needs replaced. now the pistons look like they have some gap between them and the cylinder walls and probally need replaced also. now should i rebuild with a topline rebuild kit which is the only one i can find and put a new head on it which i found on ebay for 350 1yr warranty which isnt bad at all. or should i get a jdm engine from ebay or a website. i personally want to put some pistons and rods in it like eagle and ross with some clevite bearing and main, rod and head studs. with a stock rebuilt head and build the head later. but im on a budget right now and really need to get it going again with minimal down time and money. i can get all the parts fast and do the work in a couple days no problem. just asking what you guys think is best in my situation

Re: need suggestions please.
What do you mean the valves have a gap in them and so do the pistons from the cylinder wall? Did you do a compression test before you tore the head off? That would have been a smarter thing to do.

Re: need suggestions please.
Well, if you need it and don't have the cash to be putting towards it then I would say just go with the topline kit and get a new head... But, if you really really wanna build it (and I know you wanna
) then you should go with your will and do it. Your only young once, lets all be stupid together and blow a ton of money on our built motors. I know I am even though I can't really afford it. lol

Re: need suggestions please.
im talking like you can stick your finger in between some of the valves and the head kinda of gap some of them stick out and some look normal.
i probally will just build it and get it done now while its all torn apart slowboy has the stroker kit for 1195 so ill probally get that and a stage 3 head and be done with it arp everything with a jam complete gasket set

Re: need suggestions please.
There is supposed to be gap between the cylinder wall and the piston the rings make contact no the piston.
I would never buy a "jdm" engine. The two people i know who bought jdm engines and just dropped them in had problems. Just think about it, 30k on a 10-15 year old engine...that engine has been sitting in a junkyard for the better part of it's life. If you don't have the money now rebuild the head and put it back together and save up for the strocker kit.

there should be a small gap between the cylinder wall and piston.

Re: need suggestions please.
I'd put your head back on and do a compression test. If your compression is consistant (the difference limmit is 15 psi, personally, I would be concerned after a difference of 10 psi) and above like 130 I'd just leave it. 130 is a bit low, but it should have some decent life left (if you take care of it) and it should run fine. You should be able to check the compression with just the head on and timing belt set right (and be sure it is set right), you shouldnt need the intake/exhaust manifolds or anything.

Re: need suggestions please.
my compression is 135 across the board. The service limit is ~129 on a 1g and 130 on a 2g(both turbo)

Re: need suggestions please.
If he can stick his fingers between the valves and the seat, then there is something majorly wrong. Severly bent valves and probably wrecked valve guides. Are there dents on the top of your pistons because I'm thinking you jumped timing or something for the valves to be that messed up.

Re: need suggestions please.
no actually the pistons look very good. everyone here post pics of dirty built up pistons these ones are very clean and barely have any carbon build up at all.
my father come over and checked the block out for me and told me nothing was wrong with it at all and that i need to just replace the head and timing compnents. the engine thats in there only has 65,000 miles on it so i was thinking there shouldnt be anything wrong with it yet ive always run stock boost and its never seen the track yet.
