My Caprice/Impala is the fastest car in the WORLD!
Ok. I know your caprice/Impala is very dear to you. So don't get all bent out of shape by this thread. I'm a tech at a Chevy dealer, and I own a caprice and I love it! I'm just trying to get something through your thick skulls. The Impala Super Sport is not very fast. Ok ok ok, "my Impala runs 13's!!" Great for you. Your Impala is not stock, or there were some extreme circumstances like running at a very low altitude, with perfect temperatures and a perfect reaction time. "I raced a Mustang and I beat him!" Whoop-a-dee-doo. The other guy driving was a moron, or he wasn't even racing. You can make any car faster with mods. A STOCK 94-96 Impalla SS runs mid to high 15's. Look in any magazine. From 1985 through 2006 the only STOCK V8 manual mustang that would be slower than an Impala SS is the 94-98 4.6L. Other than those 5 crappy years, the mustangs all ran high 13's to low 15's. So you might say, well those Mustangs have 5 speeds! Well they were available with them! The Impala SS wasnt available with them. Chevy is the nimrod who didnt put a T-56 in the Impala SS! So the best STOCK Fox body mustang, is faster than the best STOCK B body Impala SS. There is no argument. Here's a good unbiased site with STOCK 1/4 mile times. You might say "Oh thats made my Ford guys! Its all a lie!" Its not. Look at the Camaro's, the corvettes. Its pretty legit. Read their intro. This was not my ONLY source of info for my thread, but just a good example. So if you claim to own a STOCK Impala SS that runs 13's. Then you better get in touch with Barret Jackson, because you have a one of a kind find. http://www.albeedigital.com/supercou...0-60times.html

Re: My Caprice/Impala is the fastest car in the WORLD!
Wow. What brought all that on? Did I miss a thread somewhere?
Anyone trying to make good track times with a 4,480 pound barge is really going about it all wrong. It's hardly a sprint car either. It's a full-sized, full weight, FOUR DOOR passenger car. There's no hiding that. Last weekend I was easily the heaviest thing on the track, except for the ambulance. When the top fueler tried out both walls, they didn't even have a truck to clean up the mess. I doubt that the Ford Light'ning club that was there had much mass on me either. There was a '67 Buick Riviera that might have been close... |

Re: My Caprice/Impala is the fastest car in the WORLD!
I agree. caprices are not designed for 1/4 mile racing. what they do well is holding a fast pace, on the highway, or back roads, and doing it in comfort.
I actually have a cool story. last weekend my dad has me drive 45 mins to madison VA to pick up some supplies for him. i get there just fine and load the 150+ pounds of stuff into my trunk and back seat. on the way back, i decide to take a back road because they are more fun. im driving along doing the speed limit when this 85-92 saab 900 turbo pulls up behind me and gets right on my bumper. well i speed up a little, and he is still on my bumper. next thing i notice, he is trying to pass me. well i let him go around, and he takes off. i take off after him. here we are two kids flying thru some back country road at 85 mph. there is this long stretch ahead that i see coming up so right out of the twisties, i gun it and take off. im getting ready to pass, but there is a huge blind turn that this guy must know about because all the sudden, he hits the brakes. well it is a blind turn and i nearly loose it, but manage not to. i ended up beating the guy in the end lots of fun. the thing is, i was actually beating him in the twisties because while he was sitting there waiting for his turbos to spool up, i had 200 lb/ft at my disposal, ready to GO. not bad for a 3.8L V6 w/ 150+ lbs of junk in its trunk thought id share that story |

Re: My Caprice/Impala is the fastest car in the WORLD!
I'm sorry GreyGoose, but anything more than 111.73 pounds in the trunk and that's just not possible. The only thing that makes your story at all believable is that some of the weight was in the back seat!

Re: My Caprice/Impala is the fastest car in the WORLD!
yeah, i put as much in the trunk as i could, which wasnt much since these were big boxes. the rest went into the back seat. i had one box next to me if that helps

Re: My Caprice/Impala is the fastest car in the WORLD!
The fact these are not intended to be performance cars make it all the more fun to go whip on f-bodies and Mudstains at the strip. No my car is not stock, far from it, BUT I can still do a 1000mile trip with 4 people and luggage comfortably and go to the strip and have some fun. 13.2 is my fastest pass to date but it will make a 12 second pass this coming friday(few new mods) and come summer will make a 900+mile each way trip for vacation and some racing.
At the strip the advantage we have is TRACTION few other cars can be made to hook so well with so little effort. I have found that for an f-body to ET similarly to me they need 4-7mph higher trap speeds. |

Re: My Caprice/Impala is the fastest car in the WORLD!
Good luck, Dwayne. I had a crappy day last Sunday. I was right about 100MPH at the first traps and still in second, and had to lift to get it to shift. I don't know what's up with it, but it drove home fine. It may be time to look at the tune a bit closer to see if I didn't screw something up in the program. I WAS on my way to a low 14-something on stock tires before hitting the cruise control.

Re: My Caprice/Impala is the fastest car in the WORLD!
The 13.2 was at just 101 but on slicks, same night went 13.6 on the street tires with the slicks, jack and tools in the trunk so easily over 4400lbs.
Some datalogging yesterday showed more slip rpm than I should have with the current converter, I am wrote a program to lock it at WOT and am going to play a little if the rain lets up. I hope the tranny doesn't need a refresh. |

Re: My Caprice/Impala is the fastest car in the WORLD!
We'll actually putting over 150+ bounds is possible to clear this up. I own a 2002 Chevy impala and i have a "COMP READY" car audio system in it. Just to prove this to whoever may dout me, i will actually have pictures on sound domain and if u want to see them i am going to put them up later on today. THis will just b a rough estimate of what i have in there as of today.
3 Batteries 95lbs each a battery box 30lb 2 amp racks 50-75lbs the subwoofer which is a 9500 25-50lbs the amp's 25lbs 2layers of dynomat completely through the trunk 20lb a piece of MDF which is bolted to the trunk lid 20lbs and with all that i can still hit 115 in my car . So honestly it is beliveable you just dont know what your talking about. |

My wife has a 03 w-body Impala great car for a woman no competition to mine in the speed department,l hell my basically stock 195K Roadmaster wagon beat a friends 04 SS at the strip, yes the blown 3.8L, was a pretty good race I won it in the first 60ft. though that much weight over the rear tires means traction is no problem.
