nerve damage

hey, for those of you who don't know, i got some glass in the forehead, long retarded story, and now have a bit of nerve damage. i can't aise my left eyebrow and can't feel from the scar to about 3" up my scalp.

Just wondering what are the chances of the nerves healing themselves without surgery.

by the way, the most annoying thing is that my scalp gets itchy but i cant feel myself scratching, so i just have to live with an itchy scalp for a few minutes (like 10-20)

Re: nerve damage

Your nerves will heal themselves...eventually....poorly. It takes a long time for nerves to heal themselves and you may not get full function out of them like you had before but they will heal. Get used to the tingly itching, it will stick around for a while but it will go away eventually. I had some nerve damage in my thumb a few years ago and its back to normal except for just a tiny bit of numbness right on the scar.
Hope this helps you out a little bit and think of it this way, you can probably do The Rock's eyebrow thing perfectly now.

Re: nerve damage

lol you need to tell us how it happened. i broke a window when i was younger (sister locked me out of the house, and i got pissed and banged on the window till i broke the fucker) i messed up some nerves in the side of my left hand, aswell as cut the tendon in my wrist in half. the side of my hand would get numb as fuck at first, but 2 years later, i have fully recovered.

Re: nerve damage

i put an electric saw through my thumb @ 37,000rpm no too long ago, cut through the bone, flesh, tendon, ligament, muscle and nerve. lots feeling but now most of it's back. the feeling's different than it was before, and it's not all back. but the tingling does go eventually and you'll get some feeling back.

i don't know how long it'll take, i had an operation to repait the damage i did.

Re: nerve damage

nope, got about 60% use of it, the scar tissue is very sensitive and can hurt quite bad if too much pressure's applied to it.

Re: nerve damage

well i've got some good news, I got some eyebrow movement. not much but some. but it makes weird wrinkles on my face becaue the left one doesn't raise enough to make wrinkles other than the one right on the scar but my right side does so it makes my forehead look funny when i raise my eyebrows.

SOME of the feeling is coming back but not much, at least that annoying itchy feeling is gone, it's funny when i knock my head against stuff and can't feel it, looks like ill be able to headbutt ppl without much pain lol.

Re: nerve damage

i boke my leg a while back, took out the vein artery and nerve

a nerve specialist told me that for about every 24 hours you regenerate about 1 mm (remember the width of your pinky nail is 1 cm <ussually) thus it will take a while. and no you will never have thewhole same feeling back ever again. <not to bum you out. but what will happen is nerve scar tissue will form and the nerves that reconnect can run through a gambit of things. for instance me... all surface feeling is gone in certain areas, to make up for it the in depth nerves increased sensitivity so now i can "feel" heat cold, firm touches, but if i step on a pebble i feel like i been shot in the foot because now its "hypersensitive", its called nhsd nervous hypersensitiviy disorder. or the feeling can come close, but it wil be wierd. or the nerves are dead... period. which means no muscle control, no feeling of texture, no temp change. but this will eventually become integrated into you as a person so it would be like you never could do something... its been 6 years for me and i scarcely remember how i was before.
