power option upgrades
hey all, new to AF, just got the '92 Civic CX hatch (5spd/D15b8) below for $1k and it's becoming my new project as soon as i finish the LS1/T56 swap in my '68 chevy stepside. i have an '97 EX 5spd tranny on the way and a rebuilt D16z6 head coming also, cruise control is coming, i want power windows and locks too, but ...waiting for a donor.
i've got some questions - i've dug through search to find them, but it looks like my biggest one has never been answered: power steering? i have 16" wheels w/205 40 series tires. w/no power steering and living urban where 3pt turns and parallel parking is something i do 5-10 times per day, it's aggravating. bump steer and tramlining is killing me! i don't care if i will take a 5hp or even a 20hp hit, i don't go to the strip and don't street race...i have my truck and an '03 RSX for that... so the Civic doesn't need huge balls - comfort is a little more important. i want to know: - will the D15b8 accept the PS setup from a D15b7? - is any change to the rack required? - is a gearbox required, or maybe there is an aftermarket quick-ratio gearbox out there? - can anyone give a DEFINITE list of parts required (pump/resevoir, high/low pressure hoses, PS pump mount, pulley, etc.) - is the new pulley a bolt-on deal? - any other mods required? i found these two threads on the topic and a couple others that just never got answered on the same topic, so some definite answers (not another "uh, i don't see why not!" answer) from people who 'd know (or some pics of your setups?) would be nice!: http://www.automotiveforums.com/vbul...d.php?t=328826 http://www.automotiveforums.com/vbul...d.php?t=295488 here's a pic of my "new" ride, if anyone is interested: ![]() |

Re: power option upgrades
PS - i will be taking pictures of the swap and regularly create swap threads at forums i frequent (like my current swap in the truck HERE) and will happily share pictures and instructions with everyone if i can just get a heads-up from someone for a parts list.
