Test Drove a 90TT today,Questions-Please Help
hi everyone.
i've been in the market for a 90-96TT. found a '90 TT w/ 151,000 miles. seller is asking $8500. he is the second owner, he bought the car from a nissan dealer back in october of this year. it's his sons car, and according to the father the son wants something w/ more than 2 seats. cosmetically, it appears to be in good shape. i'd say it looks pretty good, w/ some wear that is expected w/ a 12 yr old car. all the power/electronic features seem to be working fine. my concern is obviously the turbos and the motor. the seller states everything is stock, as far as he knows. if this is true, thats alot of miles on the turbos, isnt it? i test drove it. it was a very hot day, we turned the AC on immediately. there was a moderate amount of traffic, so i couldnt let it out fully. i've never driven a 300ZX TT before. i do own a turbo car right now ('99 A4 1.8T, chipped). there seemed to be a fair amount of lag in the turbos. didnt feel real power until 4500-5000 rpm. car never felt like it "pulled" real strong. in fact, i was "flooring it" and initially upshifting, until the turbos kicked in. i don't know, maybe this V6 just feels different from my little 1.8l 4 cylinder. i mean, i guess it was quick, but i just didnt get that "push you back into the seat" feeling i'm used to w/ other turbo cars. i guess what i'm asking is, should i be concerned w/ 150K miles on stock turbos? original clutch? engine? can a 12 yr old car still pull strong? do all '90 TT's feel like this? i guess its safe to assume that a 12 yr old car might not be turning out 300 hp anymore. but should i be expecting more? cause honestly, i was somewhat disappointed. it felt like by little audi sedan was quicker. i need to make a decision ASAP, he had another guy coming in right after i left, to check out the car. i plan on arranging for the car to be checked at a AAA diagnostic center. any info is much appreciated... cjw [email protected] |

DONT!
8500 for 150k mile 90 Z TT? A bit much and say no thanx!
It's ragged on man...that's why it didnt go. Those Z's are quick and if it didnt feel quick it's b/c it's out of tune, turbos are about ready to go or engine is busted up. I'd pass and wait for a lower mileage one w/a decent price. DONT GET IT!

That car is toast, if the twins had no pull, let it be.

the biggest point that would turn me off of it, is- if a KID doesnt want a TWIN TURBO 300 zx, its gotta be busted up. just dont get it.

More than 2 seats he says...maybe he cant afford the gas or the insurance or the upkeep of a TT.
Just playin devil's advocate...I still say WATCH OUT! |

Pass this offer. It's not worth it. Too much money for that mileage.
